They dont matter at all except when they do.

Thats what makes them fun!

So whos going to win this year?

Ill be handling the predictions on the film side.

This race at least has a clear No.

Youve got the five guys everyone assumes will get nominated, plus Sebastian Stan.

Three of them are competing here:Anora,Emilia Perez, andThe Substance.

One, because voters handed it 10 nominations, the second-most in Globes history.

Ariana Grande could surprise, but I think there will be a place to rewardWickedelsewhere on the night.

Usually some combination of bold ambition, auteur cred, and technical derring-do.

(Besides, having appeared in films likeMelancholiaandForce Majeurein a past life, hes basically an honorary European.)

(Listen, Im a writer, Im allowed to say it.)

If its the former, then we could be in for aConclaveorReal Painvictory.

Watch out forThe Substance, though, which won this same prize at Cannes for similar reasons.

So just like last year, whenBarbies What Was I Made For?

beat Im Just Ken, lets give it to the emotional number,Mi Camino.

The film has taken the bulk of critics prizes, and could continue its run here.

I say: Dont get fancy.

Television

Best Television Series Drama

The Day of the JackalThe DiplomatMr.

the most recent Emmy winner, if its eligible) or picking the shiniest new object in the box.

And honestly, maybe these new voters will as well.

But this feels like a very easy call for Gothams preeminent piece of shit criminal.

Best Actor in a Television Series Drama

Donald Glover,Mr.

Oldman and Redmayne are also former Globe winners in the movie categories.

I thinkShoguncontinues to roll here withanother welcome victoryforHiroyuki Sanada.

Do the Globes voters have the guts to pull it off?

AKathy Bateswin for theMatlockreboot seems so perfectly Globes-y.

And not without merit!

Emmy winnerAnna Sawaifeels like the odds-on favorite, but Im taking the plunge for Bates.

Will the (modest) backlash to this most recent season prevent the three-peat?

But anAdam Brodywin would signal that aNobody Wants Thiscomedy series victory is on the way.

Wont it be nice to see Colins beautiful face for once!

Ebon Moss-Bachrach was the rareBearnominee to lose last year, going up againstSuccessions Matthew Macfadyen.

Last years winner was Ricky Gervais, a five-time Globes host himself.

Perhaps this is a pattern!

(If so, dont count out Seth Meyers, who hosted in 2018.)

Whatever, its funnier ifSeth Meyerswins and Nikki takes shots at him for the rest of the night.
