After the death of Princess Rhaenys in the Battle of Rooks Rest, Prince Jacaerys makes a calculation.

The Blacks have far more dragons at their disposal than the Greens, but theyre running low on dragonriders.

They become known as the dragonseeds and play pivotal roles in the conflict to come.

(The one who isnt a dragonseed also does stuff.)

However, the book version of these events includes a fourth dragonseed.

Her name is Nettles, and for many reasons, shes aSong of Ice and Firefan favorite.

First, shes an underdog: a homeless teen who lives by her wits, Aladdin-style.

(Thewikicalls her a small, skinny, brown-skinned girl, with black hair and brown eyes.)

Despite this, theres mounting evidence to suggestHOTDcould leave Nettles out completely.

This silence extends to the very top: When asked point-blank about her, showrunner Ryan Condalrefused to comment.

This theory emerged frompreseason leaks, and nothing onscreen has yet contradicted it.

Putting aside the fandoms feelings for Nettles, the change makes a certain amount of sense.

Plus, theres a certain elegance to condensing them.

Other aspects of Nettless story line would have to be altered as well, especially its end.

ButHouse of the Dragonhas never been shy about editing or adding to the lore.

In the books, Nettles is a refreshing ray of sunshine among a cast of tyrants and murderers.

(For her few haters, shes disturbingly close to being a Mary Sue.)

In the show, whereevery character is more sympathetic, perhaps theres less need for her.
