It perfectly summed up the vibe ofAfter Midnight.You want a normal chat show?

Weve got a crazy props budget, though.

Apparently it did not help, and was not in fact anything.

But to me, it was everything.

In this segment, comics roasted a normal guy (actuallyAMwriter andStraightioLabco-host Sam Taggart).

Mostly the bit was about Sam getting roasted too hard and having his feelings actually hurt.

But Fleming turned the whole thing on its head instead.

He named and shamed Taggart with personal details gathered from years of friendship.

That was always one of the best parts of the show, when career-spanning friendships bubbled to the surface.

Dudes Being Buds

After Midnighthad fun with its roster of competitors.

Sometimes it was total strangers.

Sometimes it was randoms from the cast ofGhosts.Sometimes it was a mini Groundlings reunion.

But they once performed together on Melrose Avenue.

And they did it once again onAfter Midnight.

(Both the Groundlings Theatre and the Paramount Lot are on Melrose in Hollywood, btw.)

Talk-Show Anecdotes Only As Needed

After Midnightwas mostly a show with dumb games.

Some might even say everything was made up and the points didnt matter.

But occasionally, a genuine talk-show anecdote would sneak through.

Lennon takes a victory lap when the thing is over, and hes right to.

But moments like this worked specifically because they were not obligatory.

Theres no way to game it out, theres no strategy.

Theres just ugly lamps and vibes.

So many games were on this level of idiocy.Which Nick Is Taller?Which Sweater Is Softest?

The one where contestants had tomake little guysout of clay, then Tomlinson smashed them with a big hammer.
