Any words of wisdom to impart to me as I prepare to take theGold Rushhandoff for Emmys season?

Nate Jones:Thanks, Joe!

Despite whiffing a few big calls inmy final predictions, theres still much to be proud of.

Did we learn anything?

You mentioned just how much happened this Oscars season.

I wonder whether well see a similar phenomenon at work with the Emmys.

So, Joe, how are things generally looking at the outset of the season?

Is the TV field as wide open as the movies seemed to be six months ago?

Joe Reid:Id say that assessment is half-right.

But on the drama side of things, yes, were looking at an Oscars-esque wide-open field.

IsSeverancestill smart and cool?

IsThe Last of Usgoing to be able to build on its momentum?

IsThe White Lotusfalling prey to a slump year?

DoSquid GameandThe Handmaids Talehave any juice left?

IsThe Pittthe new show that will break through?

I have thoughts on all of these things, but ultimately, there are more questions than answers.

Nate Jones:Of all the series you mentioned above, I think Ive seen … three?

Lets start with the reigning champ: Which show do you see as this yearsAnora?

Voters love to support a commentary on something.

In other words, I think this yearsAnoraisThe White Lotus.

Nate Jones:I like it.

But that of course raises the question: IfThe White LotusisAnora, then who could beThe Brutalist?

Joe Reid:Im going to sayThe BrutalistisSeverance.

BothSeveranceandThe Brutalistare hugely ambitious works of formalist rigor that directly explore themes of exploitation and creativity.

Nate Jones:Two projects all about architecture and design of course!

What aboutConclave, the film thatbecame a metaphor for itselfthis past season?

Joe Reid:To me,Conclavewas the now lets do a fun one of the Oscar season.

Now lets talk about an old-fashioned project that had a much better awards-season run than anyone expected.

Joe Reid:Yes!

So far, weve mostly stuck to the artier side of the Oscar ballot.

But who do you see as the equivalents of our two big studio blockbusters:Dune: Part TwoandWicked?

Replace HBO with Warner Bros. (hey!

As forWicked… okay, hear me out.

No, I will not be taking any follow-up questions about this!

Nate Jones:No further questions required for that one.

Finally, is there an under-the-radar Oscar movie you see being reborn in one of this seasons TV contenders?

Where am I going with this?

Also, Diego Luna is adorable like a baby duck!

awards voters frequently enjoy rewarding their faves from one medium whenever they make the jump to the other.

Could any of this years nominated actors take advantage of their Oscars bump and ride to Emmy glory?

And with her high profile, she would make for a prime Guest Actress Emmy contender.

Gold Rushwill be taking a short break between seasons and will return on April 11, 2025.
