Mat is respectable and surrounded by his family, including his still-living and very proud mother.
Of all theWheel of Timepolycules, this one seems like potentially the messiest to me.
At a glance, or even after a lengthy look, the sheer volume ofstuff going oncan be overwhelming.
Sure, she was bullshitting him at the time, but those feelings remain real.
And if nothing else, theres always the heavies to fall back on.
