but the system usually prevailed.
But this is also a movie about how the system can fail even as everybody tries their best.
This is not a film of rushing deadlines and dark investigations and narrow escapes and courtroom mayhem.
Its one of long close-ups, of internalized torments and doubts.
The generally admirable simplicity of Eastwoods approach does lead to missteps.
But the director otherwise gets excellent work from his cast because he gives them both space and time.
Eastwoods unhurried gaze allows the characters humanity to shine through.
2is a fine entry in a great directors career.
Its a shame most viewers wont even know it exists.
