But when I bring it up, he waves my concerns away.

It cut a wide swath, and its a good movie, he says.
People recognize me for that at least five times a week.
Its not surprising to learn that Perkins regards his horror filmography as a kind of indirect autobiography.
Longlegs, on the other hand, is about Perkinss mother.
And its done compassionately, protectively.
And its not great.
For us, growing up, we just werent given that language.
We werent given that access.
It was soabout trauma.
It was about a character who has had a trauma.
And it was so phony to me.
What was true for me is the very literal thing that both my parents died in fucking crazy ways.
That everybody, including yourself, dies is such an absurd thing.
But what are you going to do about it?
Not get out of bed?
As my daughter would say, its not that deep.
Perkins props it up next to her name and smiles.
She was a friend of my dads, early on in Hollywood, he says.
And I just think this sort of sexy-horror kitsch is really great.
Its a happy coagulating of different ideas.
