Laura Dern, an essential actress in the Lynch universe, remembered him on his birthday, January 20.

AFI Fest 2006 Presented by Audi Presents “Inland Empire”

Happy birthday, tidbit.

Thanks for all your kind messages.

He was brave, brilliant, and a maverick with a joyful sense of humor, Cage added.

I never had more fun on a film set than working with David Lynch.

I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.

His creative mentorship was truly powerful, she wrote. He put me on the map.

The world Id been trying to break into for ten plus years, flunking auditions left and right.

David Lynch was an American original.

I got to know David when he played John Ford in The Fabelmans.

Here was one of my heroesDavid Lynch playing one of my heroes.

It was surreal and seemed like a scene out of one of Davids own movies.

The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice.

His films have already stood the test of time and they always will.

It was a day on Mulholland Drive.

He was, in actuality, a one of a kind artist.

He created forms that seemed like they were right on the edge of falling apart but somehow never did.

And he was absolutely uncompromising, from start to finish.

Its a sad, sad day for moviemakers, movie lovers, and for the art of cinema.

We were lucky to have had David Lynch.

A very kind man, he was a fan of Bob’s Big Boy.

So was I. I’m going to miss him.

Like Kafka, like Bacon, he dedicated his life to opening a portal.

You inspired so many of us.

The backward written cue cards for this still hang on the wall.
