What was your vision for Dylans Outie in season one?

I wanted to live in Innie perspective as long as I could.

Its that self-mythologizing that he does.

I didnt have a specific vision.

Some of it has to do with how dramatic the difference is between the Outie and Innies life experiences.

Outie Dylan wasnt groomed to be the CEO of this mysterious company his whole life.

He has baggage that feels a little more like something I can personally relate to.

He has a family, he needs money, hes struggling.

Innie Dylan kind of feels like a younger version of the Outie.

Thats one way I thought of it.

Innie Dylan reminds me a bit of my younger self.

I thought about myself way more than I thought about the people around me.

Outie Dylan gets a very funny scene in his job interview at the door factory.

I always hated doing them, and they always feel absurd.

I know Ill be good at this.

Why do we have to do this weird song and dance?

I was drawing from that feeling.

Hes experiencing the loss of a friend for the first time; hes experiencing heartbreak for the first time.

It was interesting to play with that but as a guy whos not a teenager.

He loses Irv, and you also lost John Turturro as one of your primary scene partners.

Did you feel that loss?It was a legitimate bummer not to have John around as much.

Hes such a great presence as a scene partner and on set.

Hes a lot of fun.

Can you tell me about filming the funeral scene?

Was it creepy to eat Turturros head in melon form?Yeah, it was.

This season, Innie Dylan falls for his Outies wife, Gretchen.

This episode, it all comes to a head.

It was really fun to figure that out with Merritt and play those scenes.

It felt like this first-love arc.

Then, of course, he finds out its not going to be the thing he thought it was.

Thats so common for first-love experiences.

It was exciting that they had faith in me.

It was both exciting and intimidating to learn that Merritt was going to be playing my wife.

You mentioned your improv and sketch background.

Now were on a team together, and we do perform occasionally.

So we clicked right away.

In season one, when we were trying to build that office camaraderie, it helped a lot.

Ben has been very encouraging of me to improvise when were shooting.

Do you do any of that?I really dont.

Have you seen all thememesabout Dylans glasses slipping on his face?I dont think Ive seen those memes.

I dip in and out of that stuff.

People are concerned.Thats very understandable.

The glasses are almost their own character.
